Band Booking Basics: The 5-Pointed Star!

July 6, 2011{ 8 Comments }

Musician, author, road-warrior, and full-time character Martin Atkins shares some basic booking advice on how to keep your travel costs down while also building a fanbase and buzz BEFORE you hit a major city. Instead of doing a long tour through all the big cities, start small and focus on one region. But rather than playing the big city first, concentrate on performing in 5 surrounding towns until you’ve built up a loyal following. THEN go into the big city and bring all your regional fans with you!

You’ll save gas money by concentrating on one specific area, and you’ll save yourself embarrassment because that fancy club in the big city will be full! Empty rooms aren’t good for business, yours OR theirs.

Check out the clip above and also be sure to listen to our interview with Martin on Episode #94 of the CD Baby DIY Musician Podcast.

    Hmmmm. Now that is happening for me too. Weird. Well, what happens if you search YouTube for “Martin Atkins: 5 pointed star”? That should bring something up with the same info— hopefully!!
