June 21st is Make Music Day, a worldwide celebration of learning and playing music that began in France over 30 years ago, and has since reached over 100 countries.

I’ll be taking part by playing a couple gigs in Portland, Maine. Some of my friends way over there in the other Portland (Oregon) will be hosting a ukulele Mass Appeal, a “large gathering where people bring and play ukuleles together.”

Last year they had over 100 people attend. It sounded like this:

Fun, huh? If you’re in the Portland area, bring your ukulele, join in, or just listen and learn a few new songs. According to MusikHaus, the Portland-area ukulele school behind the event:

All ages and levels are welcome to come. We have a song list, practice videos and there will be giveaways from Kala and Alfred Music.

The event will be at 6 PM, June 21st (Summer Solstice) in Pioneer Square.
