Crowdfunding site Kickstarter.com helped musicians raise $19,801,685.21 last year. Music was the second most popular funding category (behind Film & Video) and comprised about a 5th of the company’s total pledges for 2011 (which tripled from the previous year). Considering that Kickstarter is only one of many crowdfunding sites growing in popularity and effectiveness (also see RocketHub), it’s clear that crowdfunding is not a waning fad.
