Haley Joelle is a singer-songwriter from Oregon. Her intimate pop sound blends authentic storytelling with ethereal vocals to create cinematic melodies that make songs feel like worlds unto themselves.
Can you describe your music in three words or less?
I’d say delicate, timeless, and honest — and it has a lot of yearning in it.
What are some things that helped you lock into songwriting?
When I’m feeling an emotion really strongly, when I hear chords that give me chills and make me want to create on them, and when I see or hear something that I think would be a really strong lyric or concept for a song.
What’s a bit of advice you wished you received earlier in your journey as an artist?
Definitely to skip perfection and stop trying to make everything perfect, because it’s not going to be. I’m also someone who really appreciates when other artists show their imperfections and it makes me connect and relate to them more. Easier said than done, but that’s a piece of advice I wish I had sooner.
What are 3 things artists should do before release day to engage their fans?
First, know what your song is about — why you should care and why other people should care. Then, on social media, reply to and engage with people online. Keep sharing snippets and be all over your comment sections. Lastly, I’ve been enjoying getting some sort of link to superfans before the song goes live, so they can hear it first. It’s fun to hear what they think before everyone else.
Can you share a recent achievement or milestone and some steps you took to get there that our audience of artists can learn from?
A recent exciting milestone for me, is the remix of my song addicted which is called “I think I’m Addicted,” with Oscar Med K — that hit #1 on the Billboard Dance Airplay mix chart. It was a very long and complicated journey to get there. And maybe it’s a story that I’ll tell one day, but it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t trusted my gut and really blocked out all the outside pressure and noise and turned it inward and really asked myself what I want — and really trusted my own taste. So I’m very thankful for my gut.
What’s next for you?
With the release of “Wish I Was The Wind,” we’re entering a new visual world that I’m excited to debut, and before the end of the year, you can expect some sort of project — more to come on that soon. I don’t want to give too much away. Lots to come, very excited, and very grateful for all the support this past year.
