Thanks to our friends at NewRockStarPhilosophy.com for pointing this one out. Cee-Lo Green, singer of the group Gnarls Barkley, recently interviewed himself.

Spoofing James Lipton of Inside the Actors Studio, Green created a short video-clip that is entertaining and also serves to further his (cultivated or not) “Lady Killer” image.

This reminded me of the classic David Byrne self-interview where he dresses up in a bunch of different costumes and asks himself questions about the filming of Stop Making Sense.

Both of these examples clearly show that you don’t need much of a budget, just a camera and some compelling questions. Heck, you don’t even need to make a joke out of it. Why not just answer the questions you’d most like to be asked (your dream interview!),  then edit it together into a mini-promo piece, and put it on your website/YouTube channel/social media profiles? It’s a simple and engaging way to get your music, persona, and/or message out there.

If you’re really feeling brave, you could talk directly into the camera like Ferris Bueller!
