The Ping Update

ping logo1 The Ping UpdateWe have some exciting news about iTunes Ping.  Apple’s new social networking component to their iTunes player has an open door policy and is available to major label & indie musicians alike.

CD Baby will now be submitting a limited number of artist profile requests to iTunes on a weekly basis.

Apple will be receiving similar requests from all the major/indie labels and aggregators they work with, so creating new artist profiles will take some time on Ping’s end since they have to set up each account and verify authenticity.  Because of this, we will not be able to procure access for the entire CD Baby catalog in one fell swoop. However, as the process becomes more streamlined, we’ll be able to send more and more requests each week.

If you would like to have CD Baby submit an artist profile request to Ping on your behalf, please email ping@cdbaby.com for further info.

How should artist notify CD Baby if they want to be parts of the “limited number of artist profile requests”, or if they don’t want a Ping account?

    • Chris R. at CD Baby

If you want us to put in a profile request for you, write to cdbaby@cdbaby.com. Our customer service team will help you out. If you do NOT want a Ping account, simple. Just do nothing. We won’t request it for you unless you ask us to.

A label that handles CDs of mine not on CDBaby have requested putting me up on Ping. Does this mean if they do it I wont be able to add my CDBaby albums to Ping? and vice verse? Or will the 2 me’s get blended into one?

    • Chris R. at CD Baby

That is a great question. I’m checking in with someone in our digital distribution department who is in contact with folks at Apple. Hopefully we’ll hear back soon and will keep you posted.

      • Chris R. at CD Baby

OK. Looks like Ping is dealing only with artist profiles, NOT albums. Basically, your Ping artist profile will link to your artist page on iTunes, so as long as all your albums appear on that same page in their store, you’ll be all set in regards to Ping.

Will artist who have a Cdbaby account be able to control their ping account, such as uploading videos and pictures?

    • Chris R. at CD Baby

Yes. If you have control of an artist account on Ping, you’ll have the same features and functions you see on existing artist profiles.
