Twitter #Music Launches

Emerging artists now have a new way of being discovered with Twitter #Music

As of this morning, Twitter #Music is now available for all Twitter users in the US, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. It’d been in a test phase for a little while with select users. And by “select,” I mean… famous people.

#Music is a web and iPhone-based app that “surfaces” songs based on the listening habits of those folks you follow on Twitter. It’s basically a music recommendation engine that uses Twitter activity to gauge which artists and songs you’ll be most interested in hearing.

You have three different options for listening to the “surfaced” tracks without having to leave Twitter. #Music uses iTunes’ API so you can stream 30 second clips (and link to iTunes to purchase). Or if you’re a premium Spotify or Rdio subscriber, full track streaming is available. No matter how you’re streaming the track, #Music also makes it easy to share the song with your followers and let the world know what you’re listening to.

The app is currently available for iPhone only, but rumor has it that an Android version is in the works.
