CD Baby is on a mission to help you make the most money from your music, and that’s why we’re so excited to see our new sync licensing program generating so much revenue for artists. We’ve paid out over $200k in less than a year, and we’ve just begun to scratch the surface of its potential, so we want to make sure you don’t miss out.
Sync licensing comes free with your CD Baby submission, so after you sign up, you just need to log in to your account and opt in.
Don’t have any new material? You don’t need any. We get licensing requests for all types of music — new and old — and the more of your catalog that’s out there, the better the chance your songs will be used on YouTube or other platforms, and the better chance you’ll see bigger checks. So if you have albums or tracks that have been collecting dust, now’s the time to get them out there!
What exactly is sync licensing?
In order for someone to legally use your song in their TV show, commercial, film, video game, or YouTube video (a process called “synchronization”), they need to acquire a license from you first. As the rights holder, you get to charge money for that license. With sync licensing through CD Baby, all the licensing work is handled for you. All you have to do is collect the checks.
Do I retain ownership of my work?
Of course. And you’re free to opt out of the program at any time.
