This is a guest video by Chris Rockett at Music Marketing Classroom.

Chris is a music marketing consultant from the U.K. whose mission is to uncover the dark secrets of effective promotion and share them with everyone who is interested. Enjoy!

——————————————————————————

Action points from this video…

1. Come up with a really killer freebie that you can offer people in exchange for their email address.

2. Set up a “Fan-Catcher” page online where you let people know what they’re getting and ask them to sign up.

3. Create a “thank you page” where you offer people the chance to pass it onto their friends by clicking the a Facebook “Like” button.

4. Drive fans to your free offer using your favorite music marketing tactics. (I like guest blogging and Facebook Ads)

Good luck and I look forward to answering any questions you might have.

Leave a comment below and let us know how you got on.

Chris thanks for the ideas… though think musicans are partly responsible for the ‘devalueing’ of music!

Hey Chris, thanks again for great information. One thing I don’t get – why send people who have not signed up for your email list to the thank you page where they get the incredible freebie?

If the original fan who likes my music and message sends their friends, don’t I want this new traffic going to my fan capture page?

Hey Matthew, that is such a great question and I’m sure a lot of others might be thinking that same thing.

So I had to make you a follow up video :)

Thank you Chris, that was very generous to make a custom video reply, especially since I somehow missed it in the first video.
I must have been trying to rush through the video. My apologies!

Thank you Andy, I can’t believe I missed that.

Andy R! My long lost friend. How are you.

Looking forward to working with you this year!

Still think your course is killer, lovin that “last minute gigs” trick.

The amazing thing is that people today are more likely to Like than they are to sign up to a mailing list. They are happy to give away certain details, but an email has become precious. I deal with artists that have up to 8k Likes but only 100 odd on their mailing list. Very amusing. Matt x
