Screen Shot 2012 06 26 at 3.10.08 PM 650x465 CDBaby.com is Reborn: The Best Online Indie Music Store Just Got Better!Today we officially launched a brand new version of CDBaby.com (it’d been in beta for the past couple weeks so we could swiftly move past the burping, diapers, and training wheels phase) to help improve our customers’ experience and help artists sell more music.

The redesigned site lets us feature more great music, highlight some of our music discovery options to better show off our artists, and provide a better shopping experience all around. Customers have been loving it so far, and we hope you’ll check it out, poke around, and see how your music looks (and sounds) on the new site.

Visit the new CDBaby.com!

We’re excited about this simpler, cleaner design with lots of space to feature more of your music. And one of the unseen goodies is that the new site is equipped with rich snippet markup, which will improve artists’ Google search rankings!

So, what do you think of the new CD Baby store? Let us know in the comments section below.

i like the new website design, i think it looks great! i like that it’s a bit more neutral than the previous design, as that will work better with the spectrum of artists and music styles that cd baby features.

the new website has got me thinking about cd baby and i do have a few thoughts about the artist dashboard, and i’d like to share my wish list below…

    1. i’d love to see my account balance directly on the front page of the dashboard (instead of having to visit the accounting section).

    2. i’d really love some sort of page i could visit that would list when you (cd baby) have paid out artists for each store and for each time period so i can cross reference that info with whatever campaigns i’m working on. i realize that you guys get paid by the stores sometime after the actual sale, but i find i spend a lot of time checking to see if i’ve gotten any new payments, and it feels very random. for instance, i know that rumblefish is paying out quarterly. i haven’t seen any rumblefish payments. did i not have any activity there, or am i still waiting? if i knew that it had been paid, i could act accordingly and make adjustments (try a new strategy, or tweak an existing one, etc.).

    3. i’d love to see cd baby forums back. i’d love a place (other than the comment section of the diy musician blog) to make comments and interact with other cdbaby artists. you could even make it an exclusive to cd baby artists. i just feel like there are a lot of us who are putting our lives into music and it would be a huge asset to have a place to meet with like-minded people and share with each others (ideas, successes, failures, etc.).

    4. lastly, i’d love to see more podcasts. they have been very helpful, and it seems like the periods between new episodes is increasing (the last diy musician podcast was in march and the last music discovery podcast in december).

for what it’s worth, that’s my wish list. i’d love to hear what features other cd baby artists would like to see in the future!

again, great job on the new website! i think it’s a great step in the right direction!

Hey Christopher, thanks so much for the suggestions. I will definitely make sure our development team has these items to add to the wish list. As for the podcasts, we’re recording another one tomorrow morning!

Looks great – browse Free music would be a nice menu option.

True. Added to the future wish list!

I’m not sure I understand the question. Are you asking how to change your sample tracks on CDBaby.com so that customers can hear all of them? If so, just email cdbaby@cdbaby.com with the requested changes and they’ll fix it for you.

Not quite sure how you or I got it there but the link maker and resulting music player look brilliant on whatever site I was just on.(I’m a founder member of Headfucked Unanimous) The symptoms of which are
memory affectation. Anyway that much I remember looks great. Well done you.

how the hell do I opt-out of your sync licensing program? There’s no option in my account ANYWHERE, and in your Sync FAQ it’s says there’s a cancellation form, but doesn’t link to it and it doesn’t seem to be anywhere on the site?? So much for being able to opt-out at any time…

    • http://diymusician.cdbaby.com/author-chris-robley Christopher Robley

Sorry if that is unclear. Once you’re logged into your members account area, click “view/edit” for the particular single/album you want to cancel. Then click “Cancelation Options” under the Album Info section. From there you can cancel your sync deal by canceling “Rumblefish.”

I use to spend thousands of dollars at cdbaby. The purchase history at that time was alphabetical and it was easy to see if i already purchased a certain item. The last big change came and the history was by date but when you purchase a lot of cds going through a gazillion orders checking for each cd was way too time consuming. I rarely use cd baby any more if i can get the music elsewhere. I corresponded with several nice people at cdbaby but the problem could not be resolved. I was hoping for the change with this new format and while the history is better (dates in order),it still doesn’t solve my issue. I don’t want to work at spending my money.
