Screen shot 2010 03 04 at 10.04.21 AM How to Claim Your Artist Profile at Amazon.comIf you’re selling your music with CD Baby and you’ve chosen to have your material delivered to Amazon MP3, you can now set up your own artist store through Amazon’s Artist Central site. It’s a simple process, and it allows you to not only “claim” your music (as an artist or representative), but also to upload pictures, videos, and bio information. Here’s how it works:

1. Go to https://artistcentral.amazon.com/. If you already have a customer account with Amazon, use that to log in. If you don’t, create one. (You may have to verify your email address by clicking a link through an automated email sent to your inbox.)

2. After the normal acceptance of the terms of use, you’ll be walked through some quick-and-easy steps to claiming your music.

Note: If your band or artist name doesn’t come up in the initial search, don’t fret. It will most likely show up when the site asks you to select releases to claim.

3. Amazon can verify who you are through your Myspace account, if you have one. If you don’t, they provide other simple ways for you to prove that you are the rightful owner of the music, and that you are authorized to maintain the storefront.

Once you’re verified, you can upload pictures, banners, provide a bio, and add other elements that will make your storefront look a lot sharper than a standard Amazon page. Yeah, it’s yet another page to create and curate, and you’re probably already feeling like you’re maintaining a presence in a bunch of different spaces, but Amazon is the world’s biggest online marketplace, so it’s not going to hurt to be well-represented there.

Have you set up your Artist Central page yet? Was it easy? Share your comments (and your designs!) in the comments.

Sell your music on Amazon, iTunes, CD Baby, Rhapsody, Napster, Spotify, and more!

I’ve been selling our CDs for years through the Amazon “Advantage” program. Is this the same as what you’re talking about? Would love to get an answer to this question.

Thanks for the tip. Thought those pages were just for major label acts and the like, nice to see Amazon helping out smaller artists like us.

Very Good Info!!! THANX 4 Sharing

  • http://www.cjp-nhrecords.com Nikki Hornsby

We are sending staff there to sign up for their CJP-NHRecords projects that CDbaby is handling. Noticed that the “Just Wait” MP3 files are NOT there anymore since that CD was distributed by CD baby since 2007 …How long so the marketing specialists can link into those songs for sale? We’d love to know!

Thank you so much! Great tip!

Thanks for letting us know, guys! I followed the procedure of clicking on email confirmation link and sending a message from my MySpace page to the Amazon Central MySpace, as requested. Have to say I thought the Amazon MySpace looked dodgy – like a phishing page – with no default pic or page design or Amazon logo anywhere. Maybe it’s still a new page.

  • http://www.faithcountry.com Morris

Thank you, I’ve logged in, found myslef, confirmed through the two processes. Should have no problem getting established! Thank you CD Baby! You rpovide great resources and services for artists. I have another cd, I am about to send. Thank you again for all you do! Morris Mott

I was able to claim myself as an artist and they list all my track info, but my mp3s do not appear to be for sale on Amazon and they list my album as “out of stock”. So, not much help here.

  • http://www.Lthrboots.com Lthrboots

I had set up mine a while back, and have uploaded album art for my albums many times, and they STILL haven’t posted it on the album page. They need to get a new system for allowing the artists to have their pages automatically update when we upload pictures etc. They are almost as no-artist-friendly as Facebook….but at least my music is there. Too bad nobody can see my artist photo and CD cover artwork.

  • http:/cdbaby.com/cd/robbiealan Robbie Alan

Is there a fee involved when you sign up?

  • Geoff

Like Lthrboots (above), I too wish they would show CD cover artwork. Seems like a basic near-necessity in order to sell my music. I ended up uploading it as a customer’s photo, and this appears in the space below where the actual image should be, but it’s just not the same. Other than this major flaw, it’s a good idea.

  • http://waxturnal.com DJ WAXTURNAL

Like the previous comment (above), my CD cover artwork just seemed to disappear off the website of Amazon.com. It says “image not available”, which caused me to upload it into the “customer’s photo section”. This doesn’t help because the customer would have to actually do another step in the process to see the picture. The exposure on Amazon would be great…if the intended visual was there to help sell the CD.

If I am having a new CD set up with CD Baby, should I wait ’til you have submitted it to Amazon.com as part of the digital distribution or should I set up an account under “Createspace.” This is a bit confusing. Plus, I have my previous release “Forever With You” listed on Amazon.com, but when I try to claim it, I’m unable to.

Please clarify the best way to take advantage of being set up on Amazon.com.

    Thanks,
    Glo.

I have been with cdbaby since 2006. My mp3s are listed on the amazon.com website, however, they are not all available. My cover art is missing. I have uploaded the artwork but they do not always appear. Several of my song pages link to other artists and their songs and my songs are not there. I have uploaded my songs to their artist central but so far things just don’t work. Not too pleased with amazon.coms promotional site.
