Among the many exciting features and apps available for the new device is Garageband, which you can purchase for only $4.99!

Anyone remember those old clunky Fostex X-12s? Tascam 424s? Tascam 388s? Now you’ve got the digital equivalent of those recording machines, plus effects, but MUCH smaller and MUCH lighter and MUCH easier to use, PLUS it can be used to play video games, surf the internet, read a book, manage your calendars, take a picture, shoot video, and more.

For some musicians, the new iPad could be an all-in-one music promotion solution.

Are you one of them? Do you think this device points to the future of music recording? We’d love to hear your thoughts about if and how the iPad will change the music industry. Feel free to comment in the section below.

Is this a scaled down, modified version of Garage Band ? If so, whats the difference between it and full version…

I actually don’t know for sure. I suspect that it is a full version, but you might want to check http://www.tuaw.com for details.

    Chris,
I think you hit the nail on the head. It’s great for carrying around for garage jam sessions or when an idea pops in your head. It probably will make the extremely creative musician even much more so but we have a long ways Yo go before it replaces the studio machines itself.

Not sure if it is the “future of recording” but an added useful tool for sure.

I’m thinking that I might skill a laptop next time and just go for the Ipad.

GB looks great on there and movie maker too.

I had one of those Tascam 388 8-tracks. It cost a lot more than 4.99 and did a whole lot less. It could record 8 tracks simultaneously, tho.

I love that machine. I bought one about 5 years ago for $300. Vintage! haha.

There is no doubt these machines are changing the way we do things and not just in the music industry. But what they won’t change is the things we do. I have been using VST’s for a number of years now and have gained access to instruments and sounds never before possible on a small budget. I purchased a disk from eBay with 28,000 different VST’s I will never be able to try them all, if they keep throwing technology at the monkey then the monkey may just go back to banging the drum.

I love Garage band myself. As a songwriter this is great and very easy recording software for me to record my demos.
However, The only thing that Garage band is missing is “punch in and punch out recording features.”
I don’t know why they haven’t added this feature to this great software– this would make it complete like Pro tool and other recording software’s.

Are they ever considering in adding better punch in and punch in recording features to garage band?

    I would love to know!
    Thanks

Anyone out there recorded a masterpiece on it yet?

Nice. I used Garageband last week to make some quick demos for an upcoming recording project, and your Garageband recording sounds way way way way way better than mine. Granted, I pressed record and tracked acoustic demos for 12 songs in about 90 minutes,… but still, I sound like I’m performing under an overpass.
