As one of the CD Baby editors, I’ve seen all kinds of different “press releases.” Some people send emails. Some people print out a physical press release that accompanies the album in the mail. There are short ones, long ones, red ones, blue ones. From the hand-scribbled post-it note to the expensive, glossy press kit. From a facebook message written all in CAPS to a pimped-out PDF.
There is no single-best way to write a press release. Different formats suit different bands. The main thing you want to consider is how to best communicate the MOST essential 2 or 3 things about your music, and quickly.
TrackHustle.com posted a great set of guidelines to get you started. Check it out HERE if you want to know the basics of of writing a good press release.
