video YouTubes new video editor: Edit video in the cloudCutting and assembling video clips usually means being tied to the computer on which your editing software is installed, and often requires detailed knowledge of programs that can be needlessly complicated. No more. With YouTube’s new “in the cloud” video editor, you can create your own short movies online, all without any software requirements. There’s nothing to install, and you can use it on any computer that can access your YouTube account. While it’s not going to replace your hefty copy of Final Cut Pro, it’s a great solution if you’re on the go and need to trim the fluff out of some recently shot footage. The new editor allows you to:

• Combine multiple videos you’ve uploaded to create a new longer video
• Trim the beginning and/or ending of your videos
• Add soundtracks from YouTube’s AudioSwap library of tens of thousands of songs
• Create new videos without worrying about file formats and publish them to YouTube with one click – no upload necessary

This promises to be a useful tool for touring bands, artists in the studio, or fans who want to make a nice clean clip of you playing live and post it as soon as they can. The less useless footage in your video clips, the better (maybe link to that other video article?), and this is just one more way to ensure that you’ll always have the option of creating quality video clips to represent you and your music. And this is only the testing version, so YouTube is sure to roll out more features as this project picks up speed. Give it a try HERE and let us know how you think it might benefit your online video efforts.  Note: You must be logged in to your YouTube account for the editor to work properly.

Thank you. Will try this. However, I’d like to find out how to get our original music into Audio Swap. I cannot find info no this. Does anyone know? What a wonderful promotional tool it would be to have hundreds, thousands or millions of videos featuring our music in the youtube videos!

Nice, But does anyone still use windows movie maker or am I vastly out of touch?

I use windows movie maker, but find that it uploads kind of poorly, squishes anything shot in HD … frustrating. Still one of the better designed simple editing kits around.

    Use Adobe Premiere Pro….

I use Movie Maker and create intro and ending plates using Powerpoint – save as JPG. Works great.

I tried the youtube editor but without a way to add a caption or a few frames of text, it is not very useful for me.

Steven, I found a place that puts your music into Audioswap. I have a bunch of my tunes up there and have actually started to collect a little bit of coin from it as well. The company is called Rumblefish based out of Portland. You can submit your music here: http://www.musiclicensingstore.com/. Give it a shot.

Thanks for the tip but i think i will stick with Windows Movie Maker… biggest issue with this is you can’t add your own music… kinda defeats the purpose for most musician videos… at least for me it does… Maybe they’ll make some changes that will make it more helpfull… we will see ;)
